Phantom Handshakes | No Better Plan

Some melancholic lo-fi dream pop added to the playlist today, with a recent track from New York’s Phantom Handshakes.

Phantom Handshakes is duo Federica Tassano and Matt Sklar, a band (according to their instagram bio), “born to cope with the quarantine’s gloom”. They’ve been productive, recording and releasing an EP last summer and now getting ready to release the full-length No More Summer Songs next month.

This track, No Better Plan, was dropped in February in advance of the album. Like the rest of the album the track was written, recorded and mixed by the band at their respective homes in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Gloomy but poppy, with sad, surfy guitar and an infectious chorus, No Better Plan will have you singing along even if you’re still feeling lonely at home.

No Better Plan is added to the 2021-a-Day Spotify playlist today, a must listen for fans of previous playlist tracks from Lande Hekt or Japanese band Morningwhim. Both of those tracks are admittedly more rock leaning than this track’s pop, but all have the same relatable melancholy.
