Nova Scotia indie pop as the latest addition to the blog and playlist.
Hillsburn has been a band for almost a decade. As part of my local music scene, they are a band I’ve long been aware of, but I have to admit I haven’t really listened to. This track was released last fall and came across my radar through an episode of local culture podcast The Tideline and I was immediately taken with it. I feel like I’ve listened to it every day since.
The band began as a four-piece and early talk around them labelled them more of a folk act (they received a major folk music award in 2016) but over time it seems their sound has changed and they now bill themselves as a pop act. This track is a teaser for their upcoming third album Slipping Away which will be released sometime this spring. I’ll definitely be keeping my ears open for it (and will be continue to listen to this track in the meantime).
