Lawn | Jane Ryan

Post-punk from New Orleans on the blog and 2021-a-Day playlist today.

Lawn’s second album Johnny was released last September on Community Records out of North Carolina (a few cool colour vinyl are still left from the band’s bandcamp page).

Lawn is largely billed as a duo songwriters and vocalists Mac Folger and Rui DeMagalhaes: interviews and band photos feature just the two, but the album notes that drums on this album are added by Hunter Keene. The album tracks feature a mix of styles, with this track Jane Ryan being among the fastest and most raucous. The band bio notes the songwriters are “heavily influenced by kiki pop acts like The Bats and The Clean, as well as British post-punk pioneers Swell Maps and Wire”. Those sounds are evident but the band blends them into something entirely their own.
