If you, like me, are discovering Bristol’s Neurotic Fiction through this track; then you, like me, will be very disappointed to hear that this EP Romance, released last August, is their final output as the band broke up in 2019.
Upon the EP’s release, one review labelled the band “energetic melodic punk” and while on first glance it might seem like those words don’t go together, it’s actually the perfect summation of this track, which is up-tempo but somehow mellow, punk but not angry, urgent but not frantic. Garage-y and dancy with just enough edge: it’s kind of everything I love in a punk track.
It seems this may we one Romance we’ve all arrived a bit late to. Check them out on the 2021-a-Day playlist: this new love is bittersweet.
